SPICE AND APPETITE CONTROL

Earth spices are seedy, soil-like in profile and textural. Heavier flavours such as these provide a sensation of weight and flavour impact for the palate. Weight is an important component when it comes to the body’s experience of fullness: if the mouth registers the presence of food and flavour, the sensory body is faster in its recognition of the eating process. Air-popped pop corn can be eaten all day. But heavier, textural flavours are much faster to instigate a cessation in hunger. Earth spices like cumin seed used in cooking can contribute to feelings of fullness. Spices within this category include cumin seed, cumin powder, coriander powder, fennel seed, aniseed, caraway seed, and nigella seed.

  3. One to two tsp nigella seed in your favourite coconut seafood curry.
