RECIPE DETAILS

Serves: 1
Cooking time: Up to 30 minutes.
Dietary Style: Gluten Free. Dairy Free. Vegetarian. Vegan (without honey).

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 to 3 cups of water
  • 1 large piece of ginger, chopped
  • honey to taste
  • squeeze of lemon or lime (optional)

METHOD

How to make our delicious ginger tea remedy.

STEP 1

Cut the fresh ginger into chunks and pop it in the pot of water. Turn it to the stovetop and bring it to the boil. Once hot, turn the pot down to a slow simmer and put the lid on to limit evaporation. Simmer very slowly for 20 to 30 minutes, or until the liquid is a rich golden colour, and the water has thickened and become a little viscous.

STEP 2

Pour into a mug and stir through a teaspoon or-so of honey. A squeeze of fresh lime or lemon is also a lovely touch—the acidity will draw out the spice from the ginger and the sweetness of the honey.

LEARN MORE ABOUT
GINGER TEA BENEFITS

Is ginger tea good for me?

Yes. Even with a little bit of honey to sweeten, fresh ginger tea is hydrating, soothing, and free of chemical additive and excess sugars.

What are the benefits of ginger?

Ayurveda, traditional Indian medicine, sees ginger as being warming, and an aid for the respiratory system. It also provides stable and gentle reinvigoration and stimulation for tired bodies.

Can I substitute dried ginger for fresh ginger?

The health benefits of dried ginger and fresh ginger are different. Dry ginger is better for bloating. Fresh ginger is more lively, and is used to cool fevers. In food, dried ginger is warmer, rounder, and subtler than the astrignent and sharper nature of fresh ginger.

What is ayurveda?

Ayurveda is the traditional system of medicine across the Indian regions. It focusses on use of foods—particularly spices—to balance the bodies systems and minimise disease risk by reducing inflammation.
